Costly grace is grace as the sanctuary of God, that must be protected from the world, that must not be thrown before the dogs, it is rather grace as the living Word, the Word of God, which he himself speaks, how it pleases him.

It meets us as a gracious call to follow Jesus (lit: to the discipleship of Jesus), it comes as a forgiving Word to the troubled spirit and the bruised heart.

Teuer is die Gnade, weil sie den Menschen unter das Joch der Nachfolge Jesu Christi zwingt, Gnade ist es, daß Jesus sagt: “Mein Joch ist sanft und meine Last is leicht.”

Costly is the grace, because it compels the person under the yoke of discipleship of Jesus Christ, it is grace, that Jesus says: “My yoke is easy and my load is light.”
