Teure Gnade ist der verborgene Schatz im Acker, um dessentwillen der Mensch hingeht und mit Freuden alles verkauft, was er hatte; die köstliche Perle, für deren Preis der Kaufmann alle seine Güter hingibt; die Königsherrschaft Christi, um derentwillen sich der Mensch das Auge ausreißt, das ihn ärgert, der Ruf Jesu Christi auf den hin der Jünger seine Netze verläßt und nachfolgt.
Costly grace is the hidden treasure in the field, for the sake of which the person goes and with joy sells everything that he had; the costliest pearl; for the price of which the merchant gives up(?)all his goods; the kingship of Christ, for the sake of which the person himself tears out his own eye that irrirates him, the call of Jesus Christ from which the disciple leaves his nets and follows after [him].
Teure Gnade ist das Evangelium, das immer wieder gesucht, die Gabe, um die gebeten, die Tür, an die angeklopft werden muß.
Costly grace is the gospel, which is always sought after, the gift prayed for, the door that must be knocked upon.
Teuer ist sie, weil sie in die Nachfolge ruft, Gnade ist sie, weil sie in die Nachfolge Jesu Christi ruft;
It is costly, because calls for discipleship, it is grace, because it calls us in discipleship of Jesus Christ;
teuer ist sie; weil sie dem Menschen das Leben kostet, Gnade ist sie, weil sie ihm so das Leben erst schenkt;
it is costly, because it costs the life of the person, it is grace because it gives him life [in the] first [place];
teuer ist sie, weil sie die Sünde verdammt, Gnade, weil sie den Sünder rechtfertigt.
It is costly, because it condemns sin, [it is] grace, because it justifies the sinner.
Teuer ist die Gnade vor allem darum, weil sie Gott teuer gewesen ist,
weil sie Gott das Leben seines Sohnes gekostet hat — “ihr seid teure erkauft” —, und weil uns nicht billig sein kann, was Gott teuer ist.
Costly is grace most of all because it has been costly to God, because it cost God the life of his son — “you were bought for a price!” (1 Cor 6:20) – and because to us it cannot be cheap, what is costly to God.
Gnade ist sie vor allem darum, weil Gott sein Sohn nicht zu teuer war für unser Leben, sondern ihn für uns hingab. Teure Gnade ist Menschwerdung Gottes.
It is grace most of all, because [for] God, his Son was not too costly for our lives, but gave Him up for us. Costly grace is the incarnation of God.
