  • 1. Die Teure Gnade (1. Costly Grace) 11 12 13 14 15 16

It was a triple stopping of grace upon Peter’s path, the One Grace proclaimed three times differently; so it was Christ’s own grace, and certainly not grace, that the disciple attributed to himself.

It was the grace of Christ himself;
which overcame the disciple to leave everything for the sake of discipleship, which worked [from with]in him the confession that to the world must have seemed a blasphemy,
which called the unfaithful Peter into the final community of martyrdom, and with this forgave him all his sins.

Grace and discipleship belonged, in the life of Peter, inextricably together. He had received costly grace. With the spread of Christianity and the increasing secularisation of the church, the knowledge of costly grace was gradually lost.

[W: That last sentence sounds even more prophetic today. Lord, help us to see that grace and discipleship go together in our lives to. To be loved by Jesus is to follow Him wherever He goes (Rev 14:4): into death, and life again.]
