Aber geriet nicht Luther selbst in die gefährlichste Nähe dieser völligen Verkehrung im Verständnis der Gnade? Was bedeutet es, wenn Luther sagen kann: “Pecca fortiter, sed fortius fide et gaude in Christo” — “Sündige tapfer, aber glaube und freue dich in Christo um so tapferer!” (Anm.: Enders III, S. 208, 118 ff.). Also, du bist nun einmal ein Sünder, und kommst doch nie aus der Sünde heraus; ob du ein Mönch bist oder ein Weltlicher, ob du fromm sein willst oder böse, du ent-fliehst dem Stricke der Welt nicht, du sündigst. So sündige denn tapfer — und zwar gerade auf die geschehene Gnade hin!
But did Luther himself not counsel, the most dangerous proximity, this complete reversal of the understanding of grace? What does it mean, when Luther could say: “Pecca fortiter, sed fortius fide et gaude in Christo” — “Sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ more boldly!” (Note: Enders III, S. 208, 118 ff.). So, you are simply a sinner, and yet never come out of sin; whether you are a monk or a worldly-one, or whether you want to be pious or evil, you do not escape the tethers of the world, you sin. So sin then boldly — and namely upon the grace that has happened!
Ist das die unverhüllte Proklamation der billigen Gnade, der Freibrief für die Sünde, die Aufhebung der Nachfolge? Ist das die lästerliche Aufforderung zum mutwilligen Sündigen auf Gnade hin? Gibt es eine teuflischere Schmähung der Gnade, als auf die geschenkte Gnade Gottes hin zu sündigen? Hat der katholische Katechismus nicht recht, wenn er hierin die Sünde wider den heiligen Geist erkennt?
Is that the unveiled proclamation of cheap grace, the cancellation of discipleship? Is that the blasphemous invitation to wanton sin by grace? Is there a more diabolical abuse of grace, than to sin at the gift of God’s grace? Is the Catholic Catechism not right, when it herein recognises the sin against the Holy Spirit?
