Daß Jesus der Christus ist, gibt ihm Vollmacht zu rufen und auf sein Wort Gehorsam zu fordern. Jesus ruft in die Nachfolge, nicht als Lehrer und Vorbild, sondern als der Christus, der Sohn Gottes. So wird in diesem kurzen Text Jesus Christus und sein Anspruch auf den Menschen verkündigt, sonst nichts.
That Jesus is the Christ, gives him authority to call and to demand obedience to his word. Jesus calls to discipleship, not as a teacher and role model, but as the Christ, the Son of God. So in this short text (Mark 2:14), Jesus Christ and his claim is pronounced over people – nothing else.
Kein Lob fällt auf den Jünger, auf sein entschiedenes Christentum. Der Blick soll nicht auf ihn fallen, sondern allein auf den, der ruft, auf seine Vollmacht. Auch nicht ein Weg zum Glauben, zur Nachfolge ist gewiesen, es gibt keinen anderen Weg zum Glauben als den Gehorsam gegen den Ruf Jesu.
No praise falls on the disciple for his determined Christianity. Our focus [lit: the look] should not fall upon him, but only upon the one who calls from his authority. No other way to faith, to discipleship is pointed out; there is no other way to faith than the obedience according to the call of Jesus.
Was wird über den Inhalt der Nachfolge gesagt? Folge mir nach, laufe hinter mir her! Das ist alles. Hinter ihm hergehen, das ist etwas schlechthin Inhaltloses. Es ist wahrhaftig kein Lebensprogramm, dessen Verwirklichung sinnvoll erscheinen könnte, kein Ziel, kein Ideal, dem nachgestrebt werden sollte. Es ist gar keine Sache, für die es sich nach menschlicher Meinung verlohnte, irgendetwas oder gar sich selbst einzusetzen.
What is said about the content of discipleship? Follow me, run after me here. That is all. Go behind him, that is plainly contentless. It is evidently not a life program, where attainment might seem sensible, not a destination, not an ideal that should be pursued. There is no cause, for which (in human opinion) it is worthwhile, to apply anything or even oneself.
Und was geschieht? Der Gerufene verläßt alles, was er hat, nicht, um damit etwas besonders Wertvolles zu tun, sondern einfach um des Rufes willen, weil er sonst nicht hinter Jesus hergehen kann. Diesem Tun ist an sich nicht der geringste Wert beigemessen. Es bleibt in sich selbst etwas völlig Bedeutungsloses, Unbeachtliches. Die Brücken werden abgebrochen, und es wird einfach vorwärtsgegangen.
And what happens? The called one leaves everything, what he has, not in order to do something particularly valuable, but rather simply for the purpose of the call, because he otherwise cannot go after Jesus. To this action in itself, not the slightest worth is attached. It is intrinsically [lit: it remains in itself] something totally insignificant, unremarkable. The bridges are burnt [lit: broken off], and it simply moves forward.
