Der Ruf in die Nachfolge ist also Bindung an die Person Jesu Christi allein, Durchbrechung aller Gesetzlichkeiten durch die Gnade dessen, der ruft. Er ist gnädiger Ruf, gnädiges Gebot. Er ist jenseits der Feindschaft von Gesetz und Evangelium. Christus ruft, der Jüngerfolgt. Das ist Gnade und Gebot in einem. „Ich wandle fröhlich, denn ich suche deine Befehle“ (Psalm 119,45).
The call to discipleship is thus a bond to the person of Jesus Christ alone, a breakthrough [out] of all legalism by the grace of the one who calls. It is a gracious call, a gracious commandment. It is beyond the division (lit: hostility) between law and gospel. Christ calls, the disciple follows. This is grace and commandment in one. “I walk happily, because I seek your commands.” (Psalm 119:45).
