Hier wird der gnädige Ruf Jesu Christi in die Nachfolge zum harten Gesetz: Tue dies! Laß jenes! Komm heraus aus dem Schiff zu Jesus! Wer mit seinem Glauben oder seinem Unglauben seinen tatsächlichen Ungehorsam gegen den Ruf Jesu entschuldigt, zu dem sagt Jesus: Erst sei gehorsam, tue das äußere Werk, laß, was dich bindet, gib auf, was dich vom Willen Gottes scheidet!
Here the gracious call of Jesus Christ to discipleship becomes the firm command: Do this! Leave that! Come out of the boat to Jesus! Whoever, with his belief or his unbelief, excuses his actual disobedience to the call of Jesus, Jesus says to them: “First be obedient, do the outward work, leave what binds you, give up, what separates you from the will of God!
Sage nicht: Ich habe den Glauben dazu nicht. Du hast ihn solange nicht, als du in Ungehorsam bleibst, solange du den ersten Schritt nicht tun willst. Sage nicht: Ich habe ja den Glauben, ich brauche den ersten Schritt nicht mehr zu tun. Du hast ihn nicht, solange und weil du den Schritt nicht tun willst, sondern dich im Unglauben unter dem Schein des demütigen Glaubens verstockst.
Do not say: I have no belief. You do not have it so long as you reamin in disobedience, so long as you will not take the first step. Do not say: I have faith, I need no longer to take the first step. You do not have it, so long and because you will not do the step, but rather harden yourself in unbelief under the appearance of humble faith.
Es ist eine böse Ausflucht, vom mangelnden Gehorsam auf den mangelnden Glauben und vom mangelnden Glauben wieder auf den mangelnden Gehorsam zurück zu verweisen. Es ist der Ungehorsam der „Glaubenden“, dort wo ihr Gehorsam gefordert wird, ihren Unglauben zu bekennen und mit diesem Bekenntnis (Mk. 9,24) Spiel zu treiben.
It is an evil escape, to blame (lit: refer) lack of obedience to lack of faith, and from lack of faith to lack of obedience. It is the disobedience of the “believers”, where their obedience is demanded, to confess their unbelief and to play games with this confession (Mark 9:24).
Glaubst du – so tu den ersten Schritt! Er führt zu Jesus Christus. Glaubst du nicht – so tu eben denselben Schritt, er ist dir geboten! Die Frage nach deinem Glauben oder deinem Unglauben ist dir nicht aufgetragen, sondern die Tat des Gehorsams istdir befohlen und sofort zu tun.
You believe – so take the first step! It leads to Jesus Christ. You do not believe – so do just the same step, it is commanded to you. The question about your belief or your unbelief is not laid upon you; rather, the action of obedience is commanded you to do immediately.
