Diese Enthüllung vollzieht sich durch die Antwort Jesu. Die offenbaren Gebote Gottes werden genannt. Indem Jesus sie nennt, bestätigt er sie aufs neue als Gottes Gebote. Abermals ist der Jüngling gestellt.
This unveiling takes place through Jesus’s answer. The revealed commandments of God are stated. In Jesus naming them, he affirms them anew as God’s commandments. Again the young man is posed [a question].
Er hoffte noch einmal in die Unverbindlichkeit eines Gespräches über ewige Fragen durchbrechen zukönnen. Er hoffte, Jesus werde ihm eine Lösung des ethischen Konflikts bieten.
He hoped once again in the non-binding nature of a conversation over eternal questions, to break through. He hoped, Jesus would offer him a solution for the ethical conflict.
Statt dessen wird nicht die Frage, sondern er selbst angepackt. Die einzige Antwort auf die Not des ethischen Konflikts ist das Gebot Gottes selbst und damit die Forderung, jetzt nicht mehr zu diskutieren, sondern endlich zu gehorchen.
Instead, it is not the question, but rather he himself that is tackled. The only answer to the distress of the ethical conflict is the commandment of God himself, and thus the demand now not to discuss more, but finally to obey.
Nur der Teufel hat eine Lösung des ethischen Konflikts anzubieten, und die heißt: Bleibe im Fragen, so bist du frei vom Gehorchen. Jesus zielt nicht auf das Problem des Jünglings, sondern auf den Jüngling selbst. Er nimmt den von dem Jüngling so todernst genommenen ethischen Konflikt gar nicht ernst. Ernst ist ihm nur eines, nämlich daß der Jüngling endlich das Gebot hört und gehorcht.
Only the devil has a solution to the ethical conflict to offer, and that is: Remain in questioning, so you are free from obeying. Jesus doesn’t aim at the young man’s problem, but at the young man himself. He does not take, of which the young man takes dead seriously, the ethical conflict really seriously. He is only serious about one thing, namely that the young man finally hears and obeys the commandment.
Gerade dort, wo der ethische Konflikt so ernst genommen sein will, wo er den Menschen quält und knechtet, weil er ihn nicht zur befreienden Tat des Gehorsams kommen läßt, gerade dort enthüllt sich seine ganze Gottlosigkeit, dort muß er in seiner ganzen ungöttlichen Unernsthaftigkeit als definitiver Ungehorsam offenbar werden.
Precisely where the ethical conflict wants to be taken so seriously, where it torments and subjugates people, because it does not allow him to come to the liberating act of obedience, precisely there its entire ungodliness is revealed, there it must be in all its ungodly unseriousness as definitive disobedience.
Ernst ist allein die gehorsame Tat, die den Konflikt beendet und zerstört, in der wir befreit sind zum Kinde Gottes. Das ist die göttliche Diagnose, die dem Jüngling gestellt wird.
Seriousness is alone the obedient act, that ends and destroys the conflict, in which we are liberated to [become] the child of God. This is the divine diagnosis, which is given to the young man.
